Charlotte Sornborger receives the Diamondback Terrapin Working Group Citizen Conservation Award

Updated: Jul 22, 2020

This award recognizes Charlotte's long-term efforts to protect diamondback terrapins in Rhode Island and to promote the conservation of diamondback terrapins through education and outreach. Her collaborations with community groups and environmental management agencies resulted in the protection of diamondback terrapin nesting habitat and created a legacy that will continue to protect terrapins for years to come. Through Charlotte's collaborations with academic institutions, she has fostered a research program that has resulted in a greater understanding of terrapin nesting behaviors in New England and contributed to the training of future scientists and conservationists. The DTWG is grateful for her sustained efforts to protect this very special turtle.
